Every morning I head to the gym at 5:30 a.m. — yes you read that correctly. Then two nights a week I head back to the gym for some personal training with two friends. Yes, I workout seven times a week. That doesn’t include hiking or biking, walking the dog or any other weekend activity I enjoy. Call me crazy. With that said I try to fuel my body with good for you meals.
My morning workout is always followed by a smoothie. Each morning the smoothie is slightly different. Since I like to experiment with veggies and fruits sometimes it turns out delicious other times not so much.
This morning was a winner!
You may be thinking this green smoothie is not for me. Well you should give it a try before you knock it.
2 servings
Ingredients
2 cups spinach (I buy fresh spinach then freeze it)
1 banana
1 1/2 -2 cups original almond milk (unsweetened also works)
1-2 tablespoons agave nectar (honey works too)
cinnamon (just give it a few shakes)
2 tablespoons vanilla hemp protein
2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
2 cups frozen mixed fruits (I used a strawberry, peach and mango medley)
Directions
Place everything in the blender in the order listed above. Blend until desired consistency. If you like your smoothies thicker then only use 1 1/2 cups of almond milk.
Enjoy!

Yum! I love green smoothies. My favorite is juiced cucumber, kale or chard, celery, green apple, pear blended with a banana and sometimes frozen peaches. If I had a vitamix i'm sure I could skip the juicing part but for now it's a two step process. 🙂
