Three days off treated us well. Hiking, biking, a tent sales and hawaiian bbq kept us busy! Sunday we hiked out to Grass Lake. I would say it’s a beginner to intermediate hike. Grass Lake sits among granite slopes at 7,000 feet in the Desolation Wilderness. During the hike you pass Lily Lake, cross Glen Alpine Creek and it includes several waterfalls which were a bit dry due to the time of year and lack of snowpack last winter.
The hike in and out is about 6 miles and only took us 3 hours. Not bad for a Sunday morning. Roxy enjoyed every bit of it.

How to get there:
Take Highway 89 north approximately 3 miles from South Lake Tahoe to Fallen Leaf Lake Road. Watch for bicyclists and other cars on this narrow, one-lane road. Continue until you see the Glen Alpine trailhead sign and turn left. Trailhead parking is across from Lily Lake. A wilderness permit is required.
Don’t forget lunch/snack and plenty of water.
