While most Americans were enjoying football on Sunday a few friends and I decided to hike Mount Tallac. This wasn’t your average Sunday stroll through the woods. Nope we were hiking up to the peak, 9,735ft above sea
level to be exact. This is the best stairmaster workout complete with breathe taking views of Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Lake, Emerald bay, Desolation wilderness and a few others.

Sunday was a early start – 8 a.m. at the trailhead. Three hours, five miles and 3,500ft (from 6,400 – 9735ft) in elevation gain later we were on top of the world! The hike was a total of 9.5 miles! Yes I’m sore but it was worth every single

Tips:
Remember to register for a free Desolation Wilderness permit available at the trail sign, which must be filled out before hitting the trail.
June to October is the best time to hike Tallac.
I recommend starting early — pack a lunch, snacks and plenty of water.

Getting There:
The trailhead is located on the southwestern side of Lake Tahoe, between Emerald Bay
and Camp Richardson. From SLT take HWY 89 towards Emerald Bay, not to far after Camp Richardson turn left at Mt. Tallac Road and
follow the well-signed route to the parking lot. The trailhead is located at the end of the parking lot. (Glen Alpine Trail is an alternative route to the summit of Tallac and
popular with backpackers camping in the Desolation Wilderness.)
