Cinco de Mayo Made Simple with Del Real

With Cinco de Mayo tomorrow I’m dreaming of street tacos and margaritas beach side! Since we all know that’s not happening, I’m turning to Del Real for a quick, easy and tasty dinner.

Living in San Diego there’s an endless supply of good Mexican food. I mean endless. Living in Tahoe that isn’t the case. We have a few decent places, but usually if I’m craving something Mexican I make it at home. However, with a new baby I have a lot less time to really cook. Enter Del Real. Their authentic and easy to prepare food helps satisfy that craving in a jiffy.

A few weeks ago Del Real sent the hubby and I a party pack to test out a few products. Which included:

Chicken Tamales: I love tamales and these were delish. They had the right amount of spice and were easy to heat up. They weren’t dry either. I added a few slices of avocado and dollop of sour cream just to dress it up a bit.

Pupusas:  This was my first time trying pupusas so I was pretty pumped. Honestly, they weren’t my favorite. I felt as though they were extremely heavy. They were like a thick quesadilla. You’ll want to share these.


Chile Verde: The sauce was fantastic, but I didn’t care for the meat so much. It seemed dry.


Carnitas: Hands down my favorite product I tried. I made simple street tacos for the hubby and I. YUM! The hubby was so impressed. I will buy the carnitas in the future.

Shredded Chicken: Tacos made easy! The shredded chicken isn’t seasoned making it easy to whip up anything from enchiladas to tacos. We added some seasoning and made tacos topped with avocado, pico de gallo and a lettuce. The next day I even used it to make a taco salad!

All in all the hubby and I really enjoyed our Del Real party pack. In the future I could see us buying the Carnitas. We actually purchased a pack of tamales the last time we were at Costco! They seriously are perfect for those nights you just need something quick.
