Along the coast.The next day after checking out Crescent City, an old fishing town, we headed out to the Smith River . The Smith River is the 4th cleanest river in the world. Chilly, but clean. Looking down from the cliff ready to jump right in you could see the bottom. Truly amazing.
The day we headed out we drove down the coast towards Avenue of the Giants, so we could check out some amazing Redwoods. The Avenue is surrounded by the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, which holds the largest remaining stand of virgin redwoods in the world, covering more than 17,000 acres. The oldest recorded coast redwood–more than 2,200 years old–was found in the park. They’ve been around for more than 150 million years and can only be found on a narrow belt about 40 miles wide and 450 miles long, stretching along the coasts of Oregon and northern California. In 1918 the Founders Tree and Grove were established by Save the Redwoods League to help prevent further destructions of the coast of redwoods. The Rewoods are a site to see.
