Last night I decided to be a little crafty and started making garland for my mantel! For my first run, it didn’t turn out too bad. The plan is to make at least two more strings.
Step 1:
Pick your paper. I used a
recycled text weight paper. Choosing coordinating patterns and colors for the
paper is fun too. Choose scissors or a paper cutter, and adhesive (I used
tape). Cut 2 strips of paper, equal length and width, depending on the size of
the pinwheel you want (thicker strips = larger pinwheel).

Steps 2 and 3:
Evenly fold
(like an accordion) the 2 strips of paper. Make sure the widths match! (Note:
smaller folds make tighter pinwheels. Larger folds are looser. I made several of each size – to mix it up. Once you have the
strip folded like an accordion fold the entire strip in half. Next tape the inside edges
together. Now you have one half of the pinwheel

Step 4:
Take two half pinwheels and secure the edges together. To ensure the pinwheel looked like a circle not an oval I pulled my string through the middle and tied a little knot. This also creates a garland look if you do not cut the string.
Ta-da now you have one pinwheel on your garland string
It took me an hour or so to make nine pinwheels and attach them to string. Tonight I might enlist some help from the hubs!
