We received our first bit of snow in Lake Tahoe this weekend! Crazy, right? Although it quickly melted it’s safe to say winter is here to stay. Time to break out the winter boots or buy a new pair. It’s embarrassing to say, but I own four pairs of Sorel boots (plus slippers) and a pair of classic UGG boots. (Note: UGGs are great for cold weather lounging by the fire and sipping on hot coca, but not when it’s snowing or raining.) It’s safe to say I’m a fan of Sorel. Clunky, manly winter boots are a thing of the past. Brands are getting on board and making functional fashionable boots. Winning. I probably shouldn’t buy another pair of winter boots this season, but here are a few I’m loving.

P.S. I should mention I actually own the Sorel Conquest Carly boot and absolutely love them. They are low profile, waterproof and nice and toasty with a mid-weight wool sock. Whether I’m wore skinny jeans or a dress last year they were my go-to winter boot.

I just stumbled on your post from Pinterest. I am so happy because I needed some direction with winter boots this year. I moved up from Florida to New Hampshire last year, and suffered through winter with rain boots and one pair of non waterproof Uggs. I have been told Sorel is a great brand to invest in. I'm just unsure which pair would be best to start with. I love the look of the Conquest Carly but am unsure how warm they are. I also found 2 other pairs, Joan of Arctic Knit Boot and Glacy Explorer Boot (I got to try these on and they were so comfy!). I will be snow shoeing and snowmobiling this winter so I need something super warm and relatively low profile to fit under snow pants. Any advice would be wonderful! So glad I stumbled upon your post!

Hi Michelle,
Glad to help. The Joan of Arctic boot (-25°F) will be warmer than the Conquest Carly boot (not snow rated) based on the insert options and snow rating. Since you're buying your first pair of snow boots I would suggest the Joan of Arctic or Classic Caribou (not the cutest, but -40° F snow rating). Then at the end of the season pick up another pair during all the sales 🙂 Things to keep in mind: can you replace the insert, snow rating, tread, fit. When you try on boots take the style sock you would most often wear. I prefer a wool sock. Good luck.
