Happy Monday!
Alright, I need all you lovely ladies to put on your design hats. Not sure why, but I’m seriously struggling here. I’m going for a eclectic modern nursery and put together a few inspiration boards to get the juices flowing. Plus, I’ve been pinning away, but honestly I think it’s making the process harder. I love this, this, this, this, and this room. So let’s take a look at our room (sorry I took the photos at night).
Already Have
The Dresser
We already had this dresser and moved it to the nursery. It will also double as the changing table.
The Crib / Wall Color
I love the white. We painted the walls Olympic Gray Beard. Not sure how I feel about it. I think it might be too light. Yay of nay? Side note: we’re replacing the carpet with hardwood floors this summer.
Recent Purchases
(and on the fence about them)
Rug
I bought a grey chevron rug during the RugsUSA black Friday sale, but feel as though it’s too big for the room and it’s cream and gray vs. white and gray. However, I’m leaning towards something like this or a kilim style instead which could possibly work with the elephant curtains below. Thoughts?
Curtains
On a whim yesterday I went to Pier1 Imports and bought these curtains (similar). Not sure they will really work in the room, but I thought they were fun and playful. I also really like these, but our store has them with navy tassels and they could go with the chevron rug.
To-do’s/Still Need Purchase
Finalize — curtains, rug & wall color (possible repaint, ugh)
Window Blinds — We ordered samples from blinds.com today
Light fixture for the ceiling — no clue
Changing pad cover — of course the one I want is sold out online and in the store
Closet organization — we’re looking at this shelving unit from Ikea
Picture gallery above the crib — we’ve decided to print photos we’ve taken on trips and around Tahoe
Mobile — on the fence and open to suggestions. I like this one and feel it would be an easy DIY
Pouf/Ottoman — open to colors and suggestions woven, leather or canvas
Miscellaneous — hamper, curtain rod, additional shelving in room, side table (not sure if we have the room), possible prints from Esty like this or this, etc.
So that’s where I’m at and this kid is due January 30th. Ideally I would like to have everything done and finalized by the second week of January, but with the holidays I’m not sure that’s going to happen. Especially if I keep being this indecisive. I usually don’t have this hard of time making decisions… I would love any suggestions.
Thanks in advance!

Oh I love everything you've done so far! We used a dresser for a changing table with my daughter and will do the same when baby #2 comes in May. I have my anatomy ultrasound on Thursday and then I'll be able to start nursery shopping 🙂

Thanks! Can't wait to hear what #2 is! Good Luck.

I love everything you've purchased so far. I know you said you think the rug is too big, but keep in mind that since you are planning to get hardwood floor it'll be nice to have that space for the baby to crawl around on.
Check out pottery barn. Not only do they have cute stuff, but I think they even have a sale going on. Also, I've been a big fan of etsy. We ordered wooden names from here (https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheRuggedPearl?ref=l2-shopheader-name) to put above the girls cribs. Not sure if thats something you like or not 🙂

Thanks Jessie! Great point about crawling around. I will definitely check out pottery barn.

I love that dresser!!!! You could always keep the carpet and put a smaller one with print in the middle. (Like one of the rooms you pinned). I can't wait to see it all come together! And, remember, the baby won't be in that room for a few months, so you can still work on it after she's born!

Thanks Jess. We scored the dresser a year ago at a garage sale for $15! Wasn't in the market then, but so happy we picked it up. Funny how things work out 🙂

I think a shag rug would be a fun way to go … 🙂

Thanks Ashely. I think I might have found one today! We'll see how it looks once the rocker etc is in.

I wish I could give you advice… I'm not good at this though. Mia will be 2 this week and I only finished her nursery a couple months ago… go me! HA! I'm just here to tell you that I have faith that you're going to put together the CUTEST nursery ever!! 🙂 Good luck making your decisions!
Tiara Wasner says
Thanks lady! I'm sure it will come together in no time.

I love your inspiration! I'd suggest putting photos of everything you have together and seeing how you like it. Make your own inspiration board – that's how I decorate. I love the chevron rug and the elephant curtains, but also like the plain curtains with the tassels, if you think the elephants/chevron are too busy. Love the dresser! It's perfect. And I think the wall color is fine. If you do a lot of bold statement pieces (rug, prints, etc.) you want a simple neutral on the walls. As for a light fixture, I know it's tempting to do something fun and creative, but you really can't go wrong with a ceiling fan. I know, so boring! But babies LOVE fans and the circulation helps prevent SIDS and regulate temperature. I hate ceiling fans, but we put them in both kids' rooms for those reasons. My daughter loves to lie in her crib and stare at the ceiling fan. Babies are so easy to please!

Thanks for the great ideas. I had no idea about ceiling fans and babies!

I LOVE the dresser…such a fab find! And I really like the carpet too, especially if you go with hardwood later. Personally, I would keep the curtains more plain and spice up the walls with some fun prints. I think you can keep the walls white as well…I'm thinking about painting Ethan's walls white, but then worry that we'll have to paint everything since our doors/trim will likely look more cream once the walls are painted…wah wah!

Thanks! I tried to convince Nick to put the hardwood floors in now — haha. Yeah not going to happen 🙂 I finally ordered bedding last night (from PB Kids!) so I have a good idea what type of curtains I need and agree solid is the way to go. Good luck with Ethans room!
