Kitchen Remodel 2015 // The Details

Hello, there! I don’t know about other new mamas, but I feel like my peanut is growing so fast.

You now what else is moving fast? Our kitchen remodel! Last week the temp beam was removed, electrical was installed and drywall went up! For more pictures make sure to follow along on instagram. Oh and our third inspection is happening today. Up next paint, cabinets, countertops and flooring. So what better time than now to talk about some kitchen stuff like… my inspiration board.

Kitchen Remodel

LIGHTING
Pendant Lights | Were planning on adding pendant lights above the kitchen sink and island. I like the  metal look, but feel like the mint would add a pop of color to the gray and white tones throughout the kitchen. I’m eying something like this and this.
LED Lights| We currently have recessed lighting in a living room and added six cans to the kitchen.
Ceiling Fan | A ceiling fan is my compormise. I’ve been on a mission to find something more modern. I love the look of a three blade. My friend recommended a few fans and although I love the look of the Haiku we can’t afford it, but this option from Home Depot isn’t bad.
APPLIANCES
We currently have white appliances and are making the switch to stainless. Last summer we bought this refrigerator and range and plan on ordering this dishwasher and microwave.
FLOORING
We haven’t finalized anything, but we’re leaning towards hickory. Our contractor thinks we should go with white oak, but we’re just not sure we want oak. Only time with tell.
CABINETS + OTHER
SINK | We decided on an under mount sink and bought this one because I liked it.
CABINET DOORS | We decided to buy our doors separate from our boxes. Why? Because we’re going with Ikea. I know crazy, but we can get custom doors from Semi Handmade. The plan as of today is to go with the paint grade DIY Shaker and paint them white. As far as the island we’re considering a charcoal gray or navy color. I should add that we decided to incorporate mostly drawers into our design. I couldn’t be happier to get rid of 1959!
CABINET BOXES | As mentioned above we went with Ikea. We actually picked everything up yesterday. Wow, that was a full day. It doesn’t help that the closet Ikea is two hours from us. Time to start an assemble line to put these boxes together.
HARDWARE | Overall I’m going for a clean look and I love the simplicity of these pulls.
BACKSPLASH | There actually isn’t that much space that will need tile, but we’ve narrowed it down to either a herringbone design or subway tiles.
COUNTERTOPS | I don’t have anything picked out at this time, but I know I don’t want granite.
There you have it, my kitchen vision. I can’t wait until everything is complete.

I love it all! I can't wait to see it come together. 🙂 IKEA….the closest we've come to divorce. Just kidding!!! I LOVE their stuff, but we had a lot of late nights assembling vanities, beds and cabinets. But, in the end, we love them all and saved a ton of money!! We have white quartz countertops and LOVE them! They are so stain resistant and simple.

My wife and I love our stainless steel appliances. Stainless steel is easy to maintain, and it looks great with most color schemes. The hickory and white oak floors are both attractive, but I think you should go with the one you like the best. It is your kitchen after all. I am interested in the counters you chose for the kitchen.

My wife and I are also getting stainless steel appliances because it is low maintenance and looks good. I wish you the best of luck with everything!
