Oh my, this weekend was a whirlwind of eating, drinking (for Nick) and adventuring around Portland and Feast. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. Although Feast is in it’s third year this was my first time attending. I received a blogger pass which gave my entrance into a number of events. I really had no idea what to expect. There was so much food + drink — copious amounts of delicious wine, beer, fruit, treats, coffee cheese… I could go on and on. Over the course of the weekend we attended various events. Today, like Feast, I’m kicking it off with Widmer Brothers Brewing Sandwich Invitational presented by Dave’s Killer Bread.
Watch out ladies after this event your husband might start making new sandwich requests. The 14 chefs re-imaged mom’s sandwich we all know and love.
Before diving into tastings we headed to the Widmer booth for a beer for Nick. Beer in hand we scoped out the lay of the land and started enjoying all the tasty bites.
First up was Tillamook — only the best cheese, butter and ice cream around! Hands down best grilled cheese.
Salt & Straw made the most amazing open face ice cream sandwich sundae. It won the peoples choice award.
My Top 3 Sandwiches
Pimento Cheese Sandwich // Hugh Acheson – 5 & 10 (Athens, GA)
Smoked Sprats, Egg, Smetana Butter Fried Toast // Bonnie Morales – Kachka (PDX)
Judges Choice
Gravlax, Skyr, Pickled Cucumber, Crispy Chicken Skin, Rye Bread // Derek Hanson – Broder (PDX)
Paul Kahan created a yummy gyro offering the best ingredient — FUN!
We (meaning Nick) ended the night with wine cocktails! As well Widmer Brothers there were a handful of wineries and distilleries providing guests with drinks. We were intrigued by Union Wine Co. — they can their wine! Plus, they had the cutest truck set up.
Come back tomorrow for more Feast goodness.
